Rivet 2.2.1 was released today. It adds a option to turn off generating thumbnails. It also fixes an issue with the thumbnail caching.  The cache wasn’t also being used first after starting Rivet.  So you should see a little bit better performance the first time you view a folder after launching Rivet.

The update can be download from here

Good news everybody! Preliminary testing shows that the current version of Rivet works with the New Xbox Experience (NXE) update that came out this morning. All of the files I’ve attempted to play so far, play correctly. I haven’t tried every file type yet, but I’ve done all the ones you guys are most likely to be using.

I did have one small hiccup though that I want to give a heads up on. You have to redownload the media pack again to play some file types. I ran into this the first time I tried to play an xvid file. Fortunately, Microsoft made it really painless. The first time you try to play one, it present an error dialog saying the the update is needed and gives you a prompt to download it from Xbox Live. The screen will say you’ve already downloaded it. Just download to your hard drive again and your good to go. The Xbox will take care of everything else when you try to play the video again.

I have a feeling a couple features that we’ve gotten many requests one might have support now too. I’m not going to say what they are yet to not get people’s hopes up on specific items until I know more. I’m going to be exploring the possibilities and hopefully we’ll be able to add a couple cool new things.

It looks like the fall update is close to being released with Xbox Live being down for maintenance. It has some pretty big changes coming in both the look and the functionality. At this time we do not know if any of the changes will break Rivet. We’re in the same boat as all of you and don’t get any early access or testing on it. If something does break, we’ll be getting an update out as quick as possible for it (I’m not only the president, I’m also a client). I’ll update this post as soon as I can test on it to let everyone know if anything was broken or not.
